Clean Drinking Water Project
Holy Oasis Ministries (HOM) is working as a community faith-based organization in a project to
provide clean drinking water to the villages.
The following is an excerpt from a document entitled Dalit Community Self Supply of Safe Drinking Water in Salinity area of Repalle,
Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh, India.
HOM strategy and approach to work has been influenced by Christian philosophies and its
profile is a not-for-profit organization, dedicated to rural transformation for sustainable
development of disadvantaged communities. HOS was established in 2004 with demonstrated
experience in community-based work in women empowerment, youth development and drinking
water, livelihood and education projects in rural areas of Southern India. HOM worked with a
mere cluster of 15 villages in the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. Presently, HOM works in
more than 25 rural Dalit communities also includes an advocacy unit and a Health Environment
Development Consortium (HEDCON) in Repalla town.
HOM approaches in twenty five rural Dalit communities in Repalla Mandal, Tenali division in
Guntur District Andhra Pradesh. The objective is to provide self supply of safe drinking water to
5000 families (earning less than US$15 per month) in the coastal area of Repalla Mandal, Tenali
division in Guntur District Andhra Pradesh, through an innovative village based public-private
partnership model. The proposes a model whereby participating Village Panchayat earn marks
common water source, as in-kind contribution, for the installation of the water treatment plant
and storage tank. The Village Panchayat also contributes by fencing the tank to prevent the water
from being used for bathing, washing or other purposes. For the execution of the treatment plants
in 25 rural Dalit communities.
HOLY OASIS MINISTRIES will partner with Water Health International (WHI) - an India
based organization that specializes in distributing cost-effective water purification technologies
to villagers. WHI has been selected by HOLY OASIS MINISTRIES due to its experience and
the technology being the least-cost solution as compared with other available products in the
market (for example Reverse Osmosis), and is the most suitable to deal with the water conditions
in Andhra Pradesh. WHI is also prepared to take on pre-financing risk.
